New Life Volunteering Society (NLVS) is a national philanthropic and secular not-for-profit service organization that serves those in need through community service, education, and health care. NLVS primarily targets its attention on four groups of people: the hungry, the homeless, those with mental and physical disabilities/impairments, and underprivileged children. NLVS makes efforts to provide a healthy and nurturing environment to help these individuals.
“To serve those in need through community service, education and health care with an ultimate goal of achieving peace, love, and happiness within the community at the local, regional, national, and global levels.”
NLVS has been helping the community by partnering with college institutions and businesses across the country for over 2 decades. Increasing the number of members allowed for direct care for communities in need. The development of such connections was also vital in progressing the mission of NLVS, as new chapters have successfully created tutoring programs, health education programs and other community focused initiatives.
In 2002, NLVS began its own NLVS Health Education Program, which provides preventative health guidance on topics including diet, nutrition, exercise, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Information is delivered in a variety of settings, such as schools, shelters, and free clinics.
The NLVS Tutoring Program focuses on the subjects of mathematics and reading. The program has gained recognition from the Chicago Public School administration as one of the most highly recommended tutoring programs in Chicago. The program has helped over 1000 students since its inception and engaged over 70 volunteers from the local community.
